Drainage – in general

By the use of drainage the water balance of the soil will be improved. In the geotechnical field that means the accumulation of the surplus water in drainpipes. The non-pressurized water drains off to the discharge system.

So the ground can dry equably in wet areas and it is possible to do farming without damage to the soil. Furthermore the harvest will increase and the erosion of the soil will be reduced.

In countries with dry climate the drainage prevents the salinization of the soil in watered fields, because the salty water is constantly drained off and therefore there is no exorbitant evaporation. So, one is able to work against fruitless soil and desertification.

Corrugated plastic-drainpipes, covered with natural and/or synthetic fibers are highly established in the soil improvement.
